Hello. C J here. I’ve taken a look through my options for character and NPC assets in the Unreal Engine and I’ve settled on which ones I’m going to use for Absolute and its sibling games. If you’re new to Absolute the game then check out the labels on this post to find out more about it. These are the seven character models I need for the game. All seven come with 4-10 skins, full combat animations, sound effects, weapons and player character movement controls built into them. I have and own all of them for free from the Unreal Engine store. Here they are.
Cloth Armour
Clothing
Half Plate Armour
Heavy Power Armour
Leather Armour
Plate Armour
Power Armour
I can change their armour colours, clothing colours, skin colour, species and size easily in the software to make a variety of each with different identities. These seven will be every character in the game but altered each time to be in line with the setting. They player also will have access to the entire line of skins through crafting and a clothing dye crafting location. Here are the colour palette choices for each of the ten playstyles I need them to have.
Knightly
Heavy armour and status effect resilience.
Red Cloth – Gold Cloth – Silver Metal – Red Lacquer
Imperial
High melee but no ranged combat.
Black Cloth – Purple Cloth – Purple Metal Glaze – Brass
Ranger
High range and powerful infantry.
Denim – Leather – Blue Metal – Brass
Exemplar
High melee damage and ranged damage but fewer in number.
White Cloth – Blue Cloth – Silver Metal – Blue Lacquer
Tribal
Balance and large monstrous creatures.
Leather – Pale Blue Cloth – Steel – Brass
Clansmen
Fast but otherwise balanced with animal allies.
Black Cloth – Green Cloth – Green Metal Glaze – Brass
Zealous
Fast infantry with little armour but status effect resistance.
White Cloth – Gold Cloth – Silver Metal – Gold Lacquer
Industrial
Slow but strong armour and ranged attacks.
Black Cloth – Leather – Red Metal – Brass
Shadowed
Fast and fragile with high magic and expendable infantry.
Green Cloth – Black Cloth – Green Metal – Brass
Hordes
Mass infantry and monsters with no key strengths but large numbers.
Grey Cloth – White Cloth – Black Metal Glaze – Black Metal
Here’s a sample of one of my reference images for what I want Tribal to look like.
That’s it for now. Next I need to start pairing what species goes with what faction. More later.
