Duskbringer Script Sample Two

Hello. C J here. I've finally got my hands on a project I can actually do in a reasonable amount of time. Duskbringer's script is going well and I've got another sample for you all. Here it is.

City Meeting One

Snow: Welcome, young one. I suppose I need to call you Dusk, don’t I?

Dusk: Snow I assume? You’re projecting yourself to meet me?

Snow: Yes, I am Snow. No, I am actually here. We are not the most powerful of gods and while some of us can be in several places at once none of us here have ever learned how.

Dusk: It is quite peculiar to hear a god speak of learning.

Snow: Do you think us all knowing? I am happy for the complement but it is not deserved. We are people on the inside like any of you are.

Dusk: Then I have learned something. What are these creatures? Are these souls attacking me here?

Snow: No. They are not souls.

Dusk: Then what was I fighting last time?

Snow: Those are summons, projections of our will. It’s quite a common trick in some parts of the galaxy.

Dusk: Really?

Snow: Yes, quite common. So much so in fact that I know where you are from by the fact that you don’t know it.

Dusk: You do? Then I’m from where?

Snow: Well, fine. I know which region you’re from. There are only uncounted trillions of people there and, fine. I don’t know. But we do need your help. These summons aren’t ours. They are appearing everywhere and for every one we kill more arrive.

Dusk: Did some piece of your magic go wrong?

Snow: No. I do request that is the one thing you never assume. We do magic properly us ten. That is our job. Whether it is a spell of sending, travel, or damnation we do it properly. Whatever happened is not our doing. Someone sent these beings here. We need to know who.

Dusk: Very well. Why do you need me?

Snow: Our servants are powerful but not great in number. We need someone who can travel between the Duchies and find the answer that way. We and our Fallen are going to ensure we keep the cities safe for the mortal souls we have there.

Dusk: You have cities here?

Snow: Yes. You saw the area we reserve for outsiders last time. We have a currency as well, which you may want some of if you’re intending to stay here a while.

Dusk: Really? What’s it called?

Snow: Agony. It’s great stuff, useful in many alchemical processes as well. It’s crystallized suffering. The souls here make it for us. By being tortured. It’s a reciprocal relationship.

Dusk: Somehow I think I shouldn’t question that while I’m here. Fine. I’ll help. What’s in it for me?

Snow: We are prepared to be very useful to you. I am being honest, we need our help. We need an outside set of eyes. I can promise you magic. Safe magic. The stuff we reserve for mortals we trust.

Dusk: It must be common then.

Snow: No. We’ve never had cause to use it. Magic, more of it than you could ever use. That is my promise to you. If you event try, we will pay you for it.

Dusk: Agreed. I know that you ten are not easy to work with or easy to find, but I do know you also never lie.

Snow: I know. None of us ever learned how.

Dusk: Then what do I do now?

Snow: The invasion started in the Duchy of Agony, in the region known as the City of Chains. It’s up the road from here. I warn you, it is a well defended road and not by our own people. Make it there and see if you can learn anything. And you can’t die. No matter what you’ll feel no pain or hunger when you are here. That is our promise. I need to go. The spell will require my help soon.

Dusk: Well, best of luck.

Snow: Thank you.

More later.

Four New Recipes for January

Hello. C J here. I've got four new recipes for everyone here. We have everything from Chinese chicken to homemade hot apple cider. Enjoy. The Emperor’s Potatoes Here we have the first food item I ever finished designing for Food of the World – Carthia. I tried three combinations of traditional Asian ingredients and pasta under the assumption that I was doing Italian-Chinese food for the book. I could not for the life of me get any of them to be exciting. They were fine. I don’t eat fine. I got bored of the pasta thing and then thought to myself, ‘what happens if I swap the pasta for another starch? What about a potato?’ It worked. Really well. It worked so well I named them The Emperor’s Potatoes. They’re mashed potatoes and I left the skins on because I like vitamins and then that got me thinking about the traditional medicinal food of Ancient China, ginger. Could I put ginger in a potato dish and have it work? Yes. I can. That surprised me. Be warned, these are almost dangerousl...

Recipe - Lemon-Lime Soda

Hello. C J here. I have here a recipe for homemade lemon-lime soda. This beverage is just as sweet as the original brand it’s based on but has actual lemon juice and lime juice in it. It tastes similar but not as acidic. Strangely this recipe worked the first time I made it. It’s mostly glucose syrup, which any chemist with my knowledge of food could make in a home kitchen. The recipe makes four cups, each one to be served over ice. One cup is mostly enough for one person. Ingredients One Cup Sugar One Half Cup Water One Tablespoon Lemon Juice Three Tablespoons Lime Juice Two and a Half Cups Soda Water For the Glucose Syrup Mix the sugar and the water in a medium saucepan. Put over medium heat and stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved and the liquid is clear. It should still be thicker than water. For the Soda Measure out two and a half cups of soda water. Pour into this the glucose syrup in a heat proof one quart measuring cup or other heat proof vessel. Add the lemon juic...

Chocolate and Barbecue Sauce and Truffles Oh My

Hello. C J here. I've got two new recipes for everyone today. I meant to type up a third but for the life of me I can't find the paper index card I wrote it down on. I will have to make it again and post it later once I double check I have the right proportions. I know what's in it but the proportions are done by taste. It's for Asian style ginger baked beans as part of my Asian-barbecue book I'm working on. The book might actually end up being cards for the card game because the recipes are so simple they fit in that format. That makes my job easier. Here's our two recipes for today. The first is a new Asian style barbecue sauce I invented from scratch. This isn't based on an existing sauce. It's the product of a lot of planning and research. It's great. The second recipe is for my final draft scratch made dark chocolate. This stuff is good. I still have some of the batch I made three days ago on hand. It's too tasty to eat. There will be a mil...
