Hello. C J here. I’ve spent the holiday season numbering all of my projects and planning which ones need to get done first. To repeat something I’ve said before, I’m a one person team. The job needs one person doing it and if anyone else whats a similar profession then they can sign up for the licensing deal and have their share of my setting and the characters I write about. I’m good at retraining so I can sing, dance and act as well as code and compose music. This took a while. The company’s launch on Facebook was done the day after I figured out the last of this list a few years ago.
Also, if you’ve clicked through to this blog from Facebook expecting only recipes, well, hello. I have those recipes, but I also have fantasy novels and free print yourself fantasy card games. Sing, dance and act. That’s the job. Then, what am I working on this next year? First of all is Ascala. I’m taking a break from it. Ascala is the main city I write stories about but it’s one city in a list of 50 or so regions of the setting I own. I think it’s time to start writing about one of the other 50 regions.
I’ll return to Ascala next year. Ascala will always be the main nation in the stories despite the fact that it’s actually one of the harder ones to write. It’s like modern day but not actually on Earth. For those of you who are new to the blog, my stories aren’t on Earth. Here’s the list I’ve put together for this year’s projects.
Duskbringer
This open world fantasy RPG video game is currently in development. I’m making the entire level map and the character models for it myself, starting with a scale model built in Minecraft. It took 8 years of training to learn how to do this and all of it is in the Unreal Engine. So you don’t have to train to make level maps for 8 years I’m going to sell all of the Unreal Engine maps and the character models on FAB.com once they’re done. The game will be free and will probably be on the Android store to market the assets, which will cost money. I’ve done enough Minecraft last year to be ready to move onto the final script and eventually the actual game design.
Carthia
Story Year Carthia has begun and for the next six months I’m going to detail the continent of the same name in the Astral region of my setting. The Astral has a lot of continents that bear life and this is the one I want to cover second after Ascala. Ascala will be returned to sometime next year. This is my main project for the year and I want a list of things done for it. First up is Regency, my main print your own card game product. Regency needs a set of cards detailing the history of the region and also a set detailing its geography.
I want a novella written by me, Infinity Saga – Carthia. Infinity Saga – Carthia will be under 50,000 words and is designed to be a fast read that can be burned through in a couple of days. I also want a cookbook featuring food from the setting region, Food of the World – Carthia. For Food of the World – Carthia I’m doing a mix of Italian and Chinese flavours, like ginger pork on noodles or Italian themed Chinese appetizers. Both will be free digital ebooks and will be printed and hand bound by me for physical sale.
Finally I need to know what Carthia looks like. I’m doing a set of backgrounds and main playable characters for Carthia in my line art style. This style looks almost photo realistic but it’s entirely done in digital fountain pen by hand with a stylus. I’m looking into traditional Asian architecture and clothing styles to inform the art here. That’s the list. This list will be done slowly to ensure it gets done properly the first time.
Niurn
While I’m working on the first two projects, I’m also going to be thinking about the Quantum setting. Quantum is the same setting but 40,000 years in the past. First up is Niurn, my homage to the original Elder Scrolls games. With knowledge and technology from their original homeland the setting hasn’t invented violence yet and people can only die of old age. Without war, battles and conflicts are settled using magic, often transformative magic or mind altering magic.
I’m planning on cards Quantum set here, the official casual play card game. Quantum might see a full release with these as some of the core starter cards. It is also free to print yourself at home. There will not be Regency cards for this setting. Regency is unique to the later timeline. This earlier timeline doesn’t have the war it depicts because they can’t die. This will be a project I work on for fun while doing the serious work in the main timeline.
Future Projects
I’ve got projects planned in advance for when I finish these existing ones. After the Duskbringer map I’m working on another region of the setting, Hunter. The Duskbringer map is my chance to learn how to do these large scale map projects and Hunter is next after it. I’m also going to try and start running the mini houseparty conventions this next year. My first thought is to just run a furry themed learn to play night with the Legend – Elements Quickstart and a premade single session game.
I’ve got all of this already planned out along with the sample player characters. These will be free but I’m hoping spots fill up fast. I’ll keep doing them if there’s a demand. I’ll start seeing if anyone on Facebook in the city wants in. Facebook is proving my most reliable source of marketing and I’m continuing my food posts there through the new year. Happy New Year everyone, time to get to work.
C J Mcpherson
Hello. C J here. I've got four new recipes for everyone here. We have everything from Chinese chicken to homemade hot apple cider. Enjoy. The Emperor’s Potatoes Here we have the first food item I ever finished designing for Food of the World – Carthia. I tried three combinations of traditional Asian ingredients and pasta under the assumption that I was doing Italian-Chinese food for the book. I could not for the life of me get any of them to be exciting. They were fine. I don’t eat fine. I got bored of the pasta thing and then thought to myself, ‘what happens if I swap the pasta for another starch? What about a potato?’ It worked. Really well. It worked so well I named them The Emperor’s Potatoes. They’re mashed potatoes and I left the skins on because I like vitamins and then that got me thinking about the traditional medicinal food of Ancient China, ginger. Could I put ginger in a potato dish and have it work? Yes. I can. That surprised me. Be warned, these are almost dangerousl...
