Announcing Roads to the Spirit World

Hello. C J here. With the dark chocolate shell recipe done I have a year or two ahead of me figuring out every possible filling and topping for it. I’m writing all of this down and it will be in a book, Chocolatier Like a Dragon. This will be in print and for sale. Chocolatier Like a Dragon will have at least 50-75 recipes for truffles, 10-20 for chocolate bars and maybe some chocolate themed cookies. I might do some nut and fruit bark and candied or praline nut mixes as well.

I’ve got a couple years of making and eating chocolate full time hard of me. Compared to the previous jobs I’ve done to make books this one is remarkably pleasant. I’ve had to do calculus by hand for 10 years nonstop to make Dominion. I’ve had to learn Blueprints to make Absolute, my upcoming open world fantasy RPG video game. I’ve had to drink a shot of zero alcohol tequila on a work day to make a recipe for virgin margarita. Now for a job that I can name, describe in a sentence and actually do without inventing new varieties of number. Dominion and Absolute will be out later but the hard work parts of them are done.

I have one other priority for this year. My casual play print your own card game Quantum has its core rules done and available as a free PDF in the Books page. Quantum will all be on cards including the core rules that can be printed on business card paper on a home printer. This game is my main focus from now on. The Starter Set is still being made and all of the text, art, formatting, graphic design and planning is done by me. The Starter Set will be packaged with the core rule cards and sold by me in print once its done. Everything else will be free downloads here. The first Expansion is planned out and I’ve started typing it. All Expansions are in my setting alongside my tabletop RPG line Legend. Find Legend in the Books page as free downloads.

Roads to the Spirit World

The spirit world is a vast dreamlike place where the spirits of nature and also manmade things dwell. Roads to the Spirit World will take place there as the player completes quests and recruits wild spirits to solve an ailment eating away at the world and its wilderness. The theme for this product is storytelling. The spirit world responds to narrative and language and is made of the living stories the material world creates. All of this is based on real life Earth spirituality and also gives me a chance to share some of my knowledge about the craft of novel writing and storytelling. The cards should be a mix of practical real life Earth and also high fantasy.

Future Expansions

I have the first six Expansions planned out and named in addition to some of the typing done on the first one. The second is Lands of Creation, depicting generic monsters and cultures for every biome and fantasy landscape. This one will also have a ton of cards for crafting and food items. Then we have Five Million Strong, an in depth depiction of Ascala down to the street names and complete list of professions and mundane items. Some of this is already available as free downloads of card text.

Next is Eternal Torment, set in the setting’s Hell detailing what Hell and its rulers do. Then Song of Eternity, detailing a solar system named Eternity far away from Ascala. This is the official fantasy steampunk region of the setting. Then we have Crime Doesn’t Pay, detailing the Dark Guilds and the police who keep Ascala the city safe from each other. Finally we have Realms of the Spirits at seven, detailing the deeper regions of the spirit world where mortals are rare and the landscape is made of living knowledge and stories. This will take years to do, likely a year or two per set of cards. Check back here and on Facebook often for more updates, final draft art and endless free samples.

Four New Recipes for January

Hello. C J here. I've got four new recipes for everyone here. We have everything from Chinese chicken to homemade hot apple cider. Enjoy. The Emperor’s Potatoes Here we have the first food item I ever finished designing for Food of the World – Carthia. I tried three combinations of traditional Asian ingredients and pasta under the assumption that I was doing Italian-Chinese food for the book. I could not for the life of me get any of them to be exciting. They were fine. I don’t eat fine. I got bored of the pasta thing and then thought to myself, ‘what happens if I swap the pasta for another starch? What about a potato?’ It worked. Really well. It worked so well I named them The Emperor’s Potatoes. They’re mashed potatoes and I left the skins on because I like vitamins and then that got me thinking about the traditional medicinal food of Ancient China, ginger. Could I put ginger in a potato dish and have it work? Yes. I can. That surprised me. Be warned, these are almost dangerousl...

Recipe - Lemon-Lime Soda

Hello. C J here. I have here a recipe for homemade lemon-lime soda. This beverage is just as sweet as the original brand it’s based on but has actual lemon juice and lime juice in it. It tastes similar but not as acidic. Strangely this recipe worked the first time I made it. It’s mostly glucose syrup, which any chemist with my knowledge of food could make in a home kitchen. The recipe makes four cups, each one to be served over ice. One cup is mostly enough for one person. Ingredients One Cup Sugar One Half Cup Water One Tablespoon Lemon Juice Three Tablespoons Lime Juice Two and a Half Cups Soda Water For the Glucose Syrup Mix the sugar and the water in a medium saucepan. Put over medium heat and stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved and the liquid is clear. It should still be thicker than water. For the Soda Measure out two and a half cups of soda water. Pour into this the glucose syrup in a heat proof one quart measuring cup or other heat proof vessel. Add the lemon juic...

Chocolate and Barbecue Sauce and Truffles Oh My

Hello. C J here. I've got two new recipes for everyone today. I meant to type up a third but for the life of me I can't find the paper index card I wrote it down on. I will have to make it again and post it later once I double check I have the right proportions. I know what's in it but the proportions are done by taste. It's for Asian style ginger baked beans as part of my Asian-barbecue book I'm working on. The book might actually end up being cards for the card game because the recipes are so simple they fit in that format. That makes my job easier. Here's our two recipes for today. The first is a new Asian style barbecue sauce I invented from scratch. This isn't based on an existing sauce. It's the product of a lot of planning and research. It's great. The second recipe is for my final draft scratch made dark chocolate. This stuff is good. I still have some of the batch I made three days ago on hand. It's too tasty to eat. There will be a mil...
