Hello. C J here. I’ haven’t named my steampunk themed video game line yet but I have figured out a lot about the characters, their world and the way they look. See my previous post in this series for some lists of the clothing colours I’m using for the different nations. Once built these colours and their digital versions will be used in most of my games, physical or digital.
This got fun when I realized that all my research playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team is applicable here. That was not anticipated. I’m intending on using the video game to plan out names, stories and environment for my setting. I looked at my lists I have of ideas and every one of them works in Eternity word for word as is. Okay. That got a bit weird. I ran my main characters through the Eternity setting and they just fit. Cool. That was not expected. So here’s our main characters, according to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team.
Jaran Evermist
The Wandering Prince
Jaran was a blue noble linage Maker breed Eidolon who left his homeland Cydrath decades ago to wander the known world. After being corrupted into a pale scaled corrupted in his time serving in the court of Ragnos, he returned to his homeland to find them at war and without a leader. He took over the throne but wishes dearly to find his missing older brother, the Lost King of Cydrath. He is immortal and incredibly magically potent in addition to his skill with a blade.
Pikea Landsmeet
The Seventh Storm
Pikea is an Astral with yellow fur and pointed ears who was born in a nebula near Eternity. Her species are made of living energy and her clan runs power generation and management for Carul. She met Jaran while he was visiting her nation and they’ve wandered the world together ever since. Pikea isn’t ready to settle down yet but she’s agreed to marry her friend to cement the alliance between their two nations.
Maran Steelsoul
The Winter Regent
The current ruler of Kydran economically is Maran. The part android being is immortal and runs the Winter Guild who manufacture most of the military equipment and technology Kydran uses. He is not evil, but his nation is competitive and that gets worse the higher in rank someone is.
See? They fit. Perfectly and without effort. I’m not sure how to feel about this. What about the dungeons? They fit. Like worse. Like I mean they fit even better but it’s worse for me in a game design sense. Tiny Woods is probably a place near the capitol of Cydrath where the Wild Lords who live in or near Cydrath meet often. Thunderwave Cave looks like a place where Darkflight hang out and turn people into purple monsters. Half the Pokemon who live there are already purple.
Cool. I guess my life is never getting normal ever again.
Pokemon was already my inspiration for the Eidolon species anyway. There are five breeds, blue Makers, green Beasts, yellow Golems, orange Stalwart and red Ogres. Each breed combines the visual design of three Pokemon. The Pokemon are as follows. Makers are marill, azumarill and kyogre. Beasts are caterpie, metapod and butterfree. Golems are weelde, kakuna and beedrill. Stalwart are numel, camelrupt and torkoal. Ogres are voltorb, electrode and groudon.
Machop were already planned as a breed of corrupted. Jaran in my copy of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team is a machop. That was picked for me by the game. I just picked the name. So apparently reality isn’t composed of fundamental particles. It’s composed of Japanese stuffed animals on a microscopic scale. I’m glad that we figured that out.
C J Mcpherson
Hello. C J here. I've got four new recipes for everyone here. We have everything from Chinese chicken to homemade hot apple cider. Enjoy. The Emperor’s Potatoes Here we have the first food item I ever finished designing for Food of the World – Carthia. I tried three combinations of traditional Asian ingredients and pasta under the assumption that I was doing Italian-Chinese food for the book. I could not for the life of me get any of them to be exciting. They were fine. I don’t eat fine. I got bored of the pasta thing and then thought to myself, ‘what happens if I swap the pasta for another starch? What about a potato?’ It worked. Really well. It worked so well I named them The Emperor’s Potatoes. They’re mashed potatoes and I left the skins on because I like vitamins and then that got me thinking about the traditional medicinal food of Ancient China, ginger. Could I put ginger in a potato dish and have it work? Yes. I can. That surprised me. Be warned, these are almost dangerousl...
