Hello. C J here. I finally typed up some of one of my story ideas I have from taking time to play video games. Here's the first scene of my new short story, Forest Mouse. It stars two of the Astral Ten as featured in the sample cards I have for Quantum. One of them is based on pikachu visually. I haven't drawn either of them yet. I probably should. Here's the sample. The final story will be free when it's done.
Leaf was trying to think of a word.
“It’s not endearing,” he said. The dark, wolf like being known as Leaf was ancient beyond all reckoning but still knew the importance of friendship. His friend, Bathaa, was trying on a scarf. “It’s not important, the word I’m looking for. The word important isn’t it.”
“Are you certain the word is in our language and not Khamet?”
“Oh, I’m quite sure. It’s in Ascalan too.”
They were in a clothing store in Ascala trying on outfits. Leaf, the ancient and powerful being of darkness, had long been friends with Bathaa. They met on a ship as Travellers and never parted ways. This was partly out of convenience and also because they worked well together. Leaf was strongly of the opinion that their skill at cooperating was because their singing voices worked well together. Somehow Bathaa had never come to understand the truth of that.
Bathaa ran his fingers over the scarf. It was teal. It did nice things with his eyes.
“Oh, I found it. Adorable. You look adorable.”
Bathaa frowned. “Um, Leaf, I’m a potent being made of living lightning from an empire beyond the light of the Astral. I’m not adorable.”
“Bright Sun Many of Leaves has spoken truthfully of the worth of his soul. You are friend and kin mate as well. Bathaa, you are a bright yellow rodent with a nice tail. We do greatly enjoy our friendship and occasional romance. I say true to you, you are cuter than a forest mouse. Name true.”
Bathaa started laughing. “Fine. The teal makes me look cute. You have a way with words you old prince. Do you think it will work as a gift?”
“Strongly. But for you, not for the party.”
Bathaa took the scarf off and backed away from the mirror. He handed the scarf along with five others to the salesperson helping them. “I think we’ll get some lunch and then come back.”
She smiled. “Of course. I’m here until we close.”
Leaf smiled. “Yes, friend one. Lunch. Excellent idea. I could use some of those fried potatoes.”
