Why Quantum Matters to Me

Hello. C J here. I’m going to continue not discussing politics. I’m busy. Yes, I am up on the events of the world very thoroughly and yes I could probably have some intelligent commentary on something. I’m not going to. It’ll take too much time away from doing more important things. I’m continuing to design the card game Quantum in the background while working on drawing the actual backgrounds and background components I need to make the art for Quantum situated in my setting.

Quantum is a game about real life spirituality. It’s designed to be educational about a wide variety of subjects. I’m working on rewriting the old Regency page here because Regency was the previous name of Quantum as a project. That project is now going to be a line of products in the new named game line of cards. I’m working on a list of the first ten or so Expansions and what real life subject matter they discuss. All of this will be free to print yourself at home. I will also be selling the Core Set of cards and some of the Expansions at conventions. I have an industrial quality home printer so it won’t cost that much in ink to print on my end.

Okay, so conventional education kind of sucks. It’s boring. I mean going to school and sitting and listening to all the disrespectful people in the class get all the attention because they want it isn’t how education should be. People should be able to eat and drink water when it’s healthy for them and wake up at a reasonable time. Why in God’s name do we have the expectation that someone in grade 12 should do 120 minutes of homework every night per all eight classes they have and also play sports at the same time? What kind of lunatic designed this system?

I’m not complaining because I didn’t do well in school. I have a perfect auditory memory so I aced everything. I hate them more because of it. Yes, hate. What did I get out of following the rules and doing well? Nothing. There aren’t jobs for people well versed in classic English literature or who need to know how to graph eight million different lines based on a set of known points. Conventional education lacks classes about things like where our food comes from, how to handle money and what a healthy relationship looks like.

And dear God, abstinence only sex education is messed up. There’s no advice on what consent is and nothing even mentioned about relationships that aren’t for reproduction. I grew up in Canada by the way. Canada is considered well educated. Where’s the advice about having a non-binary gender? Where’s the phrase non-binary? Where’s the word gender? I’m aromantic. That word doesn’t exist in our schooling. Tell someone in schooling that you have an identity like that and they’ll tell you you’re wrong.

My family are all educators by the way. We’ve discussed this so many times. We want better curriculum. Better by leagues. So I’m making it. Quantum is my solution to this problem. Quantum is me taking everything I learned and reproducing it but also giving it narrative and meaning. Quantum is me stealing everything that wasn't nailed down from every grade level I’ve passed though and giving it away for free. Quantum is mine and it’s ours. I am trying really hard here to discuss this without doing politics. I want knowledge to be free but only if it’s useful in the real world.

First up is actually useful English education in Roads to the Spirit World. Did you know that all spiritual traditions agree that storytelling is magic? Did you know that different authors have different ratios of how much of their stories are planned verses how much they make up as they go? Did you know how to write a novel? I’m hoping by the time Roads to the Spirit World is out you will. No one cared about my generation having the life skills we need. No one except for the entire world including me, my family, the internet, the actual teachers who tried and the fandom. We’re together in this. We deserve better.

Four New Recipes for January

Hello. C J here. I've got four new recipes for everyone here. We have everything from Chinese chicken to homemade hot apple cider. Enjoy. The Emperor’s Potatoes Here we have the first food item I ever finished designing for Food of the World – Carthia. I tried three combinations of traditional Asian ingredients and pasta under the assumption that I was doing Italian-Chinese food for the book. I could not for the life of me get any of them to be exciting. They were fine. I don’t eat fine. I got bored of the pasta thing and then thought to myself, ‘what happens if I swap the pasta for another starch? What about a potato?’ It worked. Really well. It worked so well I named them The Emperor’s Potatoes. They’re mashed potatoes and I left the skins on because I like vitamins and then that got me thinking about the traditional medicinal food of Ancient China, ginger. Could I put ginger in a potato dish and have it work? Yes. I can. That surprised me. Be warned, these are almost dangerousl...

Recipe - Lemon-Lime Soda

Hello. C J here. I have here a recipe for homemade lemon-lime soda. This beverage is just as sweet as the original brand it’s based on but has actual lemon juice and lime juice in it. It tastes similar but not as acidic. Strangely this recipe worked the first time I made it. It’s mostly glucose syrup, which any chemist with my knowledge of food could make in a home kitchen. The recipe makes four cups, each one to be served over ice. One cup is mostly enough for one person. Ingredients One Cup Sugar One Half Cup Water One Tablespoon Lemon Juice Three Tablespoons Lime Juice Two and a Half Cups Soda Water For the Glucose Syrup Mix the sugar and the water in a medium saucepan. Put over medium heat and stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved and the liquid is clear. It should still be thicker than water. For the Soda Measure out two and a half cups of soda water. Pour into this the glucose syrup in a heat proof one quart measuring cup or other heat proof vessel. Add the lemon juic...

Chocolate and Barbecue Sauce and Truffles Oh My

Hello. C J here. I've got two new recipes for everyone today. I meant to type up a third but for the life of me I can't find the paper index card I wrote it down on. I will have to make it again and post it later once I double check I have the right proportions. I know what's in it but the proportions are done by taste. It's for Asian style ginger baked beans as part of my Asian-barbecue book I'm working on. The book might actually end up being cards for the card game because the recipes are so simple they fit in that format. That makes my job easier. Here's our two recipes for today. The first is a new Asian style barbecue sauce I invented from scratch. This isn't based on an existing sauce. It's the product of a lot of planning and research. It's great. The second recipe is for my final draft scratch made dark chocolate. This stuff is good. I still have some of the batch I made three days ago on hand. It's too tasty to eat. There will be a mil...
