Lands of Creation Spotlight - Jungle Brute

Hello. C J here. I’ve officially started work today on Lands of Creation. Yes, I often work on weekends but only on the creative and brainstorming part of a project. Writing stories is really a full time thing and while I do not write books or draw on weekends I do still think and plan. It’s also when I like to do video game design and social media posts. Reliably I’ve never found this tires me out at all.

Lands of Creation will feature no matter what 50 recipes on cards and 200 generic monsters and creatures, mostly humanoid, for use in Legend games. These creatures are Regency decks, so they don’t have lore and instead have stat lines for use with Dominion. They will still have the spell poems that list their Quantum traits and while they work in Dominion they also are mainly designed for Quantum. Here’s a sample of the text of one of them.

Jungle Brute
I have a male black reptile tyrant with chest as an ally. He is a greater monster, a warrior and a sage. Come to me.

I’d like to reference one of my newer pages here, the Heart and Fur page. This page is named after my first game product, Heart and Fur. There’s a free download of it in the Books page. It lists the story and lifestyle concepts for each playable Class in the game, which correlate to the gem colours used to pay for cards in Legend games. This jungle brute is Basalt and so his lifestyle involves the concept of identical magic applied to everyone in a society at once. Each Regency deck then is a unique take on their parent story concept.

The question I have that I’m working on today is can I write a book about each one? Heart and Fur could use more supplements and I can do things in that system I can’t do here. It would work wonderfully as a guide for writing, and in particular drawing, these story concepts. The Heart and Fur page would otherwise grow so large that I can’t manage it. More Heart and Fur books have been a plan of mine for a long while and the Modern book is under development including its cover art to with the upcoming Modernist card deck.

I’m asking myself then, what would help people write conversations, narrate romance and draw art of these ideas and my setting as a whole. The entire setting is available for commercial use through the license system I run through Patreon and while the Patreon is still being set up the system is still there and works. Non-commercial use is always free. My thought was to read the spell poems and then let the narrative power of them guide the design of the game. Do the cards and then do the books last. That should work although very slowly.

The Tunnels Under Haven

Hello. C J here. Walking down the streets of Haven is not always as safe as the city would like people to think. Yes, they have curbed the banditry that plagues the Southern half of the Coastal Road. The Desert Princes whose cities dot the Southern coast of the Southern Continent if anything make the problem worse for themselves with their constant rivalries and politics. So no, a traveller in Haven or in the River Lands is unlikely to meet a bandit or other criminal sort. But then there’s the walking dead to consider. Many of the basements, catacombs and landmarks of Haven have old foundations from before the city had its current name. In ages long past it was one of two competing capitols for the Desert Empire, both of which unified under the first Sand King of the Gold Dynasty, the God-Lion. It was never his place of residence and both the other capitol and the rest of the Desert Empire are long since buried under the dunes. Well, people like to assume they’re buried. People wo...

Chinese Food That is Very Saucy

Hello. C J here. I read a lot of cookbooks. This is done mostly for fun. I’m currently reading a short but really interesting book about traditional Chinese cooking. The book was written by an Indian author who has clearly researched Chinese food very well but some of the translations of recipes or concepts get a bit strange. I’m currently done the soups and starters section and am onto the section labelled ‘food that is saucy.’ Cool? Is it also savvy? There’s a surprisingly large amount of ketchup in the recipes. No I don’t think I want a recipe for hot and sour soup that is thickened ketchup water with vinegar and a bit of cabbage. No I also don’t want to take a slice of white wonderbread, roll it into a tube, stuff it with canned corn, deep fry it and then top it with sesame seeds. What in God’s name do they eat in China? And why is it specifically an image of white wonderbread? China? Are you okay? I managed to take out the vinegar, water and corn starch that makes up most of the h...

Fantasy Plus Minecraft Server Project Update One

Hello. C J here. I thought I’d do a Fantasy Plus Minecraft server project update. Here’s the current state of the server. I’ve realized that you can cook over a campfire so I never need ovens. I have installed Blockbench and the Entity Editor Plugin. I have made stats, equipment lists and loot tables on paper for the gold skeleton themed enemies. Most of this will be run off three or four spawn eggs as the skeletons only need to go up in tier rarely and can have armour and weapon options including my spellbooks. I’m assuming this can be done in the entity plugin. I know zombies can spawn with armour sometimes. I will be recolouring the default skeleton to make my version, the sand skeleton. They will be run using mob spawners in the dungeons and in monster camps in the overworld. You cannot destroy them so get used to combat in these regions. I’ve spent a couple days learning Minecraft Bedrock Editor and I have the system of building worlds on the scale of tens of kilometre square...
