Hello. C J here. I’ve spent a good portion of this morning looking up GDevelop documentation and tutorials. My goodness. It solves problems. There are lists of things I wanted for my video game Dragon Engine that I deemed unreasonable given UE5’s limitations. GDevelop has lengthy and well detailed tutorials for all of them. So, more features and refined combat are being added. I’ve made a nice list thing as well.
Aiming
I want and will 100% have ranged weapons for those who like third person shooters like Horizon Zero Dawn and some of the older xbox era fantasy games. I’m adding in the ability to shoot specific parts of an enemy to deal damage to different abilities they have. Larger bodied enemies have more hit locations. A simple Google search for GDevelop 3d hit location and the AI assistant got me step by step instructions.
Melee Counter
Remember counter-based gameplay? No? Well, it really was a rare mechanic outside of some Zelda titles and maybe some of FromSoft’s games. I want it. I’m good at timing so I really like counter based combat. It’s more fun than a dodge roll, in my opinion. The idea is that when an enemy attacks you in melee if you hit the guard button at the right time you will stop their attack and stun them for a moment. Normally an attack made when they are stunned does more damage. Same process, a simple Google search for GDevelop melee counter and I got what I needed.
Procedural Maps
I don’t know if I need this but the app does support serious 3d procedural terrain generation. My 3d map tile system is similar to Minecraft but the blocks are six by eight by one metres and not one metre cubed. The buildings I’ve found good free prefabs for I can recolour and I’ve also found good free tiles I can recolour and use to build custom ones. Loading building onto a procedural map with simple furniture, also a free pack, seems actually easy.
I’m sure I can pull off a modern day environment with the right environmental clutter to make it look like an urban environment. Things like large garbage boxes, air conditioners on walls, fire escapes, public bus or transit shelters, delivery crates, large trees and climbable trees all make for a very dynamic city. These also serve as climbing items for navigating by rooftop. I will have to think about this a lot more.
C J Mcpherson
Hello. C J here. Walking down the streets of Haven is not always as safe as the city would like people to think. Yes, they have curbed the banditry that plagues the Southern half of the Coastal Road. The Desert Princes whose cities dot the Southern coast of the Southern Continent if anything make the problem worse for themselves with their constant rivalries and politics. So no, a traveller in Haven or in the River Lands is unlikely to meet a bandit or other criminal sort. But then there’s the walking dead to consider. Many of the basements, catacombs and landmarks of Haven have old foundations from before the city had its current name. In ages long past it was one of two competing capitols for the Desert Empire, both of which unified under the first Sand King of the Gold Dynasty, the God-Lion. It was never his place of residence and both the other capitol and the rest of the Desert Empire are long since buried under the dunes. Well, people like to assume they’re buried. People wo...
