Setting My Sights on the Next Parody Line

Hello. C J here. It’s long been my goal to ensure that older games and gaming ideas survive to the modern day. Through a careful use of parody and renaming everything that moves in my setting’s naming scheme I can keep old games and concepts alive forever. This is goal number one of the Legend Setting, parody things in order to immortalize them. The number two goal is to share magic and spiritual ideas. I’m picky about what goes where and what I deem worth preserving in my source material.

I’m sharing all of this background knowledge about how my job goes because I think it’s time to move onto the next phase of my parody work. Dragon Engine is done for the year and so is Quantum. It’s time to think big and then plan out how to make those thoughts into something tangible. The most well known of my setting parody projects is the game that I made my name on back in my YouTube debut, the Iron Kingdoms.

I’ve learned from this setting the best practices to follow for a steampunk fantasy setting and the original works are so utterly full of detail that I’ve had to allocate two setting regions to the steampunk theme, Eternity and Hunter. Find out more about Eternity and Hunter in the Setting page. My setting region Nebula is based on the dark science fiction tabletop miniature gaming genre and I’ve had to fix that one up about 99 per every 100 ideas I have for it. The original genre was just names of guns and faux Latin nouns.

Through Dragon Engine and Quantum I can take these outdated settings and run them through my setting’s mathematics and systems. No matter how large or small the original work is I can get something Legend Setting themed out of it. If it doesn’t have geography, a workable history, or well named characters I can add those in so long as I have one or two of the three. I can give items new names and crafting recipes in my gems engine.

The furry fandom call this process parody. The one rule I have to follow to do this is that most of the characters need to be anthropomorphic. I also rename everything including the characters and nations but the rule stands. It’s firmly a parody and therefore ethical. Ethics make money. What’s next? Well, I think it’s time to look into the next big game. This one looks like it’ll be around for a long while. I’ll link their website.

This is a new tabletop gaming company. I’ve been aware of them for a while but not a long while. They have a similar model of parody or reusing generic content to the one I use. They also have free short stories and the core rules of their games are in fact one page each. I might buy all of their setting and faction books when they’re done making them. I might also join their Patreon. These people seem legit. This may be a mutual learning situation. Time to get reading.

Also, I am on YouTube as C J Mcpherson. That is in fact me, the person typing this. There’s one of me. I have contemplated getting a Patreon for my YouTube work but I also want people spending money on my video game instead. I also am known to never check my views on YouTube. Don’t tell me. I do not know my views. I do the job there for enjoyment. Really, I am trained in video editing and I do it when I have feelings I want to share. I got the training for fun as well originally.

Oh, and they’ve got some furry species. These people are savvy.

Chinese Food That is Very Saucy

Hello. C J here. I read a lot of cookbooks. This is done mostly for fun. I’m currently reading a short but really interesting book about traditional Chinese cooking. The book was written by an Indian author who has clearly researched Chinese food very well but some of the translations of recipes or concepts get a bit strange. I’m currently done the soups and starters section and am onto the section labelled ‘food that is saucy.’ Cool? Is it also savvy? There’s a surprisingly large amount of ketchup in the recipes. No I don’t think I want a recipe for hot and sour soup that is thickened ketchup water with vinegar and a bit of cabbage. No I also don’t want to take a slice of white wonderbread, roll it into a tube, stuff it with canned corn, deep fry it and then top it with sesame seeds. What in God’s name do they eat in China? And why is it specifically an image of white wonderbread? China? Are you okay? I managed to take out the vinegar, water and corn starch that makes up most of the h...

The Tunnels Under Haven

Hello. C J here. Walking down the streets of Haven is not always as safe as the city would like people to think. Yes, they have curbed the banditry that plagues the Southern half of the Coastal Road. The Desert Princes whose cities dot the Southern coast of the Southern Continent if anything make the problem worse for themselves with their constant rivalries and politics. So no, a traveller in Haven or in the River Lands is unlikely to meet a bandit or other criminal sort. But then there’s the walking dead to consider. Many of the basements, catacombs and landmarks of Haven have old foundations from before the city had its current name. In ages long past it was one of two competing capitols for the Desert Empire, both of which unified under the first Sand King of the Gold Dynasty, the God-Lion. It was never his place of residence and both the other capitol and the rest of the Desert Empire are long since buried under the dunes. Well, people like to assume they’re buried. People wo...

Let's All Be Friends, No Really - Part Two

Hello. C J here. I’ve updated my plans to make a Discord server for everyone here and on Facebook. Making a Discord server to my knowledge costs money. However, making a Facebook group does not. I’ve made a few of those over the years as well for various reasons. I’m going to look into this soon and then add the links here and in the menus here as well. I’m certain a Facebook group is what we need. I’m planning a number of chats within the group. So far my current plans are as follows. Art and Artwork Health and Wellness Food and Baking Magic and Spirituality Writing and Software NSFW I’m planning a private group but if I can get it open entry without a form or sign up page or anything. As for rules I’m going to reuse some from past of these I’ve done. Everyone is Welcome Be Polite Advertising is Allowed Follow the Content Ratings The Facebook group will take some planning but not any actual effort to build. It’s that simple. Thanks. C J Mcpherson
